Three former Minnesota-Duluth defensemen signed NHL contracts.

St. Cloud State is bringing in a Finnish forward this fall along with other updates on the Huskies.

UMass is turned down for the second time this week. The search committee for a new head coach is now regrouping. This story suggests why the job may not be all that attractive. Here is more from the UMass fan blog wondering what the deal is.

Some outdoor hockey games will be played in a 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheatre in Croatia, pictured, by some European leagues this Sept. 14 and 16. The facility has hosted a number of big-time music acts over the years and seats 5,000.

Here is the updated list of former CC Tigers testing the waters of free agency as of 11 a.m. MT this July 6th.

They are (name, 2011-12 team):  Richard Bachman, (Dallas): Brian Connelly (Calgary); Mark Cullen (Florida); Kris Fredheim (Wild); Trevor Frischmon, (Islanders); Richard Petiot (Tampa Bay);  Brett Sterling (Blues), and Colin Stuart (Sabres).

From the GF Herald Twitter feed: Brendan O’Donnell, who missed the second half of the season after shoulder surgery, is playing at Tampa’s development camp.

In the pros: Bachman, Johnson, Lowery, O’Connell, Prosser, Testwuide

Tyler Johnson

Former Tiger Tyler Johnson (six points in 20 games) has left the ECHL following a trade from Chicago to South Carolina and headed to play in Europe. I left him a message  and hope to hear back soon.

Drew O’Connell was signed as a backup goalie recently for the injury-depleted Alaska Aces of the ECHL. The Anchorage native remains on the roster, judging from the league transactions list, but has yet to play.

I caught up with former CC captain Mike Testwuide, who along with Colorado Springs native Ben Holmstrom, will play in the AHL’s outdoor game Friday night. The game will be rebroadcast at 2 p.m. Mountain on Saturday

Nate Prosser was sent down to the AHL on Thursday.

Here’s a pretty thorough scouting report on former CC captain Ryan Lowery, who is injured.

Kari Lehtonen’s continued struggles may give goalie Richard Bachman a chance to start more often for the Stars.

In the pros: Prosser, Sejna

Peter Sejna scores on a penalty shot last season in the Swiss A League. The league champs are representing Switzerland in the annual Spengler Cup.

Former Tiger Nate Prosser will play at 6 Mountain tonight for the Wild at Nashville.

Peter Sejna scored twice for host HC Davos in a 8-1 win over Canada in the Spengler Cup on Wednesday.

The Spengler Cup, the world’s oldest professional international hockey tournament, has been held in the picturesque mountain town of Davos since 1923. The competition features five European club teams and a Canadian entry comprised largely of European-based pros.
