CC Rylan Schwartz vs UNHThe Gazette’s David Ramsey talks about CC goalie Josh Thorimbert’s season. Both the Tigers and the visiting Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs know how big this series is for home playoff ice.

The buzz about the No. 6 North Dakota at No. 1 Minnesota series is reaching a fever pitch. Here are links to everything you need to know from the Grand Forks Herald.

The Mankato Free Press provides plenty of links about the other series.

Two future CC players were among the 19 future NCHC student-athletes who made the NHL Draft midterm rankings. Here are short previews on the future NCHC schools in action this weekend.

Here is the Air Force preview for its Saturday-Sunday road series at last-place Sacred Heart.

This news made my Thursday:  Here is more on the Alabama-Huntsville joining the WCHA from the Huntsville paper and details from USCHO which broke the news. There were some concerns that the travel subsidy and the fact that this means one less trip to Alaska each season apparently eased.

It was also a good night for me personally since I got to cover an outdoor club hockey game. Cold but a lot of fun. It was a good reminder what makes hockey such a great sport to be around.

Anything less than a CC sweep will make for a disastrous weekend for CC. No doubt about it, if CC wants to even consider home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs they need to win out the rest of regular season and hope for a great deal of help from some other teams along the way.

  2. Disastrous is a strong word, but clearly CC needs these points, at least three, preferably four, to get back into the home ice race and get the head-to-head tiebreaker against UMD.
With games against UAA, Mankato and Tech in the weeks ahead, the Tigers have games against teams with losing records. They have a chance of getting on a bit of a roll and taking care of business. If so, it starts this weekend. Tiger fans need to come out and support their team.

      Joe,

CC is 4 points away from Duluth. Wisconsin has caught a streak and will probably continue with it. CC’s best chance to rise in the standings is to sweep Duluth, so yeah, if they don’t sweep this weekend the wheels that are very loose now start to fall off. Teams like Tech and Anchorage, while on paper should be walk overs, become must wins and are certainly no guaranteed w’s for this team.

Mankato is no longer a pushover either. So disaster if nothing less than a sweep is not too far off the mark. I’ll be there this weekend cheering on the home team as usual. But rest assured if CC does not make home ice for the first round of the playoffs, they can look back at this weekend as one of the many reasons why that did not happen.
