UNO leads 2-1 after one

Nebraska Omaha’s Tanner Lane scored his first college goal only 1:13 into the game as the host Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

It was only the start of a wild offensive affair between two of the top three offenses in the WCHA that ended with UNO leading 2-1 after one period.

CC sophomore Charlie Taft went to the backhand to beat UNO senior goalie John Faulkner on a one-on-none breakaway, ending a five-game scoreless skid and knotting the game at 1-1 with 15:18 remaining in the first period. It was the Tigers’ first shot of the game.

UNO went ahead 2-1 when Josh Archibald knocked in a rebound off a hard shot by Matt White after an initial save by CC goalie Josh Thorimbert with 6:42 left. That was less than four minutes after Zahn Raubenheimer had a goal negated by video review because the CC net was knocked off its moorings with 10:32 remaining.

UNO’s Matt White and Dominic Zombo collected the assists on the opening score.
