Thursday reading: Guentzel, Portland sanctions, Denver

Former Tiger Gabe Guentzel, pictured, is back in the AHL after scoring four points in three games this past weekend for ECHL Fort Wayne.

Hopes of creating a regional rivalry between Denver and Nebraska Omaha got a little help on Tuesday when DU left the unstable, Denver-based Western Athletic Conference for the Summit League, which includes South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Missouri-Kansas City, Western Illinois, Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis and Oakland (Mich.).
