The pieces are falling into place  former Tiger Guy Gadowsky as he leads Penn State into its first varsity season this fall.

Fifteen of the 27 players will be holdovers from the club team, which placed third at nationals earlier this spring The Nittany Lions will play as an independent, taking on Division III programs and some D1 schools, mostly from the Atlantic Hockey Association this season.

PSU joins the Big Ten league starting with the 2013-14 season.

Michigan State will renovate its current facility instead of building a brand new hockey arena.

Minnesota Duluth announced its 2012-13 schedule.

It is looking more and more like a done deal, which I hope will be announced before the end of the month. From the Pioneer Press: “Look for Minneapolis’ Target Center and the upstart National Collegiate Hockey Conference to announce soon a multi-year deal to host the league’s annual men’s hockey tournament. That will be in direct competition with the new Big Ten Conference tournament in 2015 and 2017 at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center. “
