Swanson ends his playing career

Alaska Aces star and former Tiger Brian Swanson has retired after 13 seasons (be sure to read the linked article by ADN’s Wooody Doyle) as a professional hockey player.

The former Chugiak High School star went on to become an All-American at Colorado College where he led his team in scoring in three of his four seasons.

Swanson reached the NHL, playing 44 games with the Edmonton Oilers, and playing for a number of minor leagues in Europe and North America. He joined his hometown Aces two seasons ago and helped lead them to the 2011 ECHL Kelly Cup championship with 70 points (24g,46a).

He recorded 42 points (9g,33a) in his final pro season. He recorded 17 points (4g,13a) in 70 NHL games.
