Rapuzzi named as 2012-13 captain

Wing William Rapuzzi was tabbed in an unanimous vote by his teammates to be the 2012-13 team captain, coach Scott Owens announce at the season-ending team awards brunch.

Joe Marciano and Rylan Schwartz will serve as assistants as will Eamonn McDermott.

“It is a great honor, especially when you consider the previous players who have been captains” Rapuzzi said.

While expectations from outside the program probably will not be too high for this new team, Rapuzzi will hear none of it.

“There is no limit to what we can do,” he said. “We will have to be a hard-working group. The seniors especially do not want to go out as an average team.”

The scheduled certainly will not be average with nonconference foes such as Yale, New Hampshire, Cornell and UMass-Lowell on the docket.

“We’re looking forward to next year,” Owens said. “We are not going to back down on our scheduling. It will be challenging and I am looking forward to it.”

Strength tests are Monday and Tuesday which individual player meetings scheduled for this week, which marks the official start of preparation for the upcoming season when the Tigers once again hope to contend for the league championship, make the NCAAs and retain the Gold Pan Trophy.

“People are going to count us out because we lost Jaden (Schwartz) and a good senior class,” said goalie Josh Thorimbert. “That is okay because everyone on the team believes.”
