Weekend reading: UND associate coach let go; Bachman, Crabb

In a real surprise out of Grand Forks, longtime assistant Cary Eades was let go by Sioux coach Dave Hakstol on Thursday.

Eades, who surely was a finalist for the MSU-Mankato head job, will not be out of work for long.

Here is the official press release and some reaction from Goon’s World.

Former Tigers Richard Bachman and Joey Crabb will both be big factors for Team USA at the world championships in Sweden and Finland.

Bachman received a favorable review from this fan blogger. Since both Crabb and Bachman are free agents this offseason, their performance at the worlds will be looked at pretty closely by NHL organizations.

With promising first-round pick Jack Campbell in the AHL and reportedly almost NHL-ready, do not be shocked if Bachman finds another home. I have no idea about Crabb’s future in Toronto  based on what I have read because no one seems sure how the Leafs organization does anything.

Chad Rau did enough this past season to receive this favorable review of the Wild’s forwards by thehockeywriters.com: “Rau is a young hockey player to watch out for. He brings a lot of energy and a physical edge. It’s possible that he could be on the fourth line in the future.”

New purple Mavs coach Mike Hastings returned to Mankato for the first time since being hired.

Denver announced its 2012-13 schedule.
