No. 3 seed Denver battles back to force OT

Denver’s Luke Salazar scored with 4:32 left in regulation to force overtime.

Ryan Furne had scored on a tough-angle shot high stick side on DU freshman goalie Juho Olkinuora only 18 seconds into the third period to give the sixth seed Michigan Tech Huskies a 2-1 lead on No. 3 Denver.

Michigan Tech’s Blake Pietila scored midway through the first period to forge a 1-1 tie that has held up through two periods at the WCHA Final Five quarterfinal at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Denver’s Ty Loney scored only 3:50 into the game off of Drew Shore’s 30th assist of the season for the third seed Pioneers.

MTU netminder Josh Robinson made some huge saves on rebounds, including two in the second period to keep the game at 1-1. Olkinuora came up big as MTU dominated much of the third period. Denver has out shot the Huskies 41-28.
