Sunday reading: Home ice, UAA, Pairwise, updated standings

It looks like four of the six WCHA home playoff ice berths are clinched with North Dakota in at No. 4 behind Denver, Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota.

In all likelihood, Alaska Anchorage will be enjoying a direct flight to Minneapolis for its WCHA playoff series. The Gophers beat writer also predicts eight seed St. Cloud State at No. 5 seed CC in the first round, though that remains very much in question with seventh-place Michigan Tech coming to World Arena.

Not surprisingly, NHL scouts think highly of the Gophers.

Here’s the latest Pairwise rankings with CC at No. 21. The Tigers

Alaska Fairbanks 3, Alaska Anchorage 1

FAIRBANKS — Daniel Naslund spotted Alaska Anchorage a lead with a second-period goal, but the Seawolves could not hang on Saturday night, falling 3-1 to host Alaska Fairbanks in hockey action at the Carlson Center. With the weekend split, the Governors Cup was decided by a shootout, which the Nanooks won 3-2. The Cup has now been decided by a shootout five times, with UAF winning four of those.
