Howe saves spark Tigers late but SCSU leads 3-2

CC goalie Joe Howe may not have garnered an assist on the scoresheet but he deserved one after three outstanding shorthanded saves in 71 seconds ended with a power-play goal by Rylan Schwartz to trim the SCSU lead to 3-2 with 2:25 left in the second period.

Howe made a great glove save with 3:49 left on a shorthanded chance by St. Cloud State, followed by another on a 3-on-2 shorthanded chance, a poke check save on a one-on-none breakaway for Ben hanowski 46 seconds later with 2:47 left and another strong stop nine second slater.

That save led to a 3-on-2 rush by the Tigers into the Huskies’ end, capped when Jaden Schwartz passed out front to Rylan Schwartz by the right post for the one-timer goal.

Sophomore Nic Dowd backhanded in a rebound with 11:25 left in the second period to stake visiting St. Cloud State to a 3-1 lead. Dowd’s goal was under review for possible goalie interference was it was confirmed after a couple minutes video review. The score deflated the crowd at Colorado Springs World Arena until that huge sequence by Howe.
