Cornell takes 2-0 lead into first intermission

Colorado College has a deep hole to climb out of against the nation’s third-best defense with Cornell leading 2-0 after one period Friday night.

Freshman John McCarron scored his first career goal on a good rip that beat CC goalie Josh Thorimbert high stick side to make it 2-0 late in the first period.

CC had a chance to take an early lead but Cornell goalie Andy Iles made two saves in rapid succession on first Jeff Collett and then Tim Hall with 17:33 left to keep it scoreless.

CC out shot Cornell 9-8 in the period with the Big Red generating more dangerous chances down low. Both Big Red goals were from long range in the left faceoff circle, including Locke Jillson’s goal midway through the first period.
