Updated: Big 10, NCAA announce Penn State sanctions

The NCAA announced $60 million in sanctions and other punishment, including 10 lost scholarships and a bowl ban in this official release. Here is the ESPN translation.
Joe Paterno’s family said the sanctions and reports unfairly ruin his legacy.
Penn State accepts the penalties, knowing the death penalty could have been far worse. This columnists did not call for the death penalty (shut down of the football program).
The Joe Paterno statue, pictured, was removed by the college on Sunday. His legacy is forever ruined according to this columnist.
The NCAA sanctions are not enough for this blogger.
The Big Ten also punished Penn State, costing the football program an estimated $13 million to raise the total sanctions to $73 million.
The Penn State hockey fan blogger does not agree with the sanctions. Current students are disappointed as well.
It is worth noting that it appears the hockey program, funded by Terry Pagula, will not be affected adversely by the sanctions.

I could not care less what happened to Penn State, but I was concerned about what was going to happen to the student athletes. So I was glad to hear, “Any current or incoming football players are free to immediately transfer and compete at another school.”
